Guest posts are one of the most effective ways to get links. Often times if you contact a blog and offer to write an excellent blog post for them in exchange for a link – they will be very happy to accept your offer. Many blogs have a challenge of continuously generating great content so you are helping them while also earning a link. There are also tons of sites that actively ask for guest posts such as Small Biz Bee.
Rand Fishkin from SEOMoz says that video is one of the best opportunities in SEO right now. He points out that often times your video has very little competition because there might not be very many videos on your niche. Videos are showing up more and more in the regular Google search results like in this example: http://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+fly+a+kite. Transcribing your video into text on the page with your video can also help generate good unique text content.
3. Interview Influencers
Interviewing bloggers and influencers in your industry can help your site generate useful content for readers and also earn links. Often times the interviewee will link to the interview on your site to help promote it. Getting an influencer to agree to an interview is a pretty easy sell. You are giving them access to a new audience and you can also give them a link to their site. Authors who have just released a book will often be receptive to blog interviews.
4. Create Useful Resources/LinkBait
Creating a great resource can attract a lot of links if it is well executed. For instance SEOMoz created the Beginner’s Guide to Search Engine Optimization which attracts a ton of links because it is a great resource for people who would like to get started in SEO. Another example is a list of top resources. For example OnlineUniversities.com created the 100 Incredible Lectures from the World’s Top Scholars which is a great resource that has been shared and linked to a lot.
