Landing Page Lessons: KISSmetrics

In addition to being a great analytics service, KISSmetrics has always had a very attractive home landing page. It doesn’t take long for first time visitors to learn exactly what the product does and why they should buy it. Aside from being visually stunning, the site copy and graphics work together to create a compelling value proposition. Here are a couple reasons why this landing page works as well as it does

Clear and concise communication

Right from the beginning KISSmetrics tells you EXACTLY why you should purchase from them. With Kissmetrics you’ll be able to “Make better business decisions” by being able to “identify, understand, and improve the metrics that drive your online business”. It’s a short message that quickly demonstrates the value of the service.

Tells visitors where to go next

This site embodies the keep it simple mantra by spelling out loud and clear where visitors can get more information. Not sure where to begin? No problem, the first graphic gives you a starting point.

Clutter free navigation

At the top of the page you’ll notice there are only three links: What is KISSmetrics, about us, and start your free trial. This makes a lot of sense considering visitors don’t want to be bombarded with an abundance of choices. From here they can learn more about the product, more about the company, or jump right in and start a free trial (an option which is appropriately highlighted to stand out).

Product demonstration images

Three images on the homepage give potential customers an idea of what it’s like to use the product. This image in particular shows that you’ll be able track and improve upon conversion rates over time.

Less important details are on the bottom fold of the page

The bottom portion of the site contains information related to just about everything else that a site visitor would want that’s not covered on the top half of the page. This includes a link to the blog and contact page, social network buttons, a link to some free tools, and email and telephone contact information. It’s worth noting that all of this information could have been pushed up within the header, but for the sake of simplicity and keeping with a minimalistic theme, KISSmetrics opts to save it for the bottom of the page.

KISSmetrics is a popular analytics tool that helps website owners analyze site traffic and collect visitor behavior data. If you’ve yet to try it out I highly recommend taking advantage of their 30 day free trial.
