SEO Tip of the Day – Avoid Cannibalizing Your Keywords
Having two pages on your site that target the same exact keyword phrase can negatively affect your SEO. One page that is not converting visitors to customers may be ranked higher and steal traffic from your main page that is designed for conversion. Also, the search engine bots may be confused if there are two pages targeting the same keyword phrase. The better approach is to make non-converting pages like blog posts focused on a variation of the main keyword while linking to your best converting page on the topic. For example you might have a blog post about “gamification in finance” and have it link to your page about a “gamification application”. It is also ideal to have several of your less important pages about a topic link to your most important page on the topic (while using descriptive anchor text) so that you concentrate your link juice to important pages on your site.
