7 SEO Tips For Seattle Businesses

If you are a Seattle business and want to attract more non-paid search traffic to your site, there are some simple SEO tactics that you can employ to start improving your site’s SEO. It is a good idea to consult with a SEO specialist to develop an SEO strategic plan that maximizes your resources toward tasks that will move the needle the most. However, there are also some simple things that you can start doing that can immediately improve the SEO of your site.

1. Start a blog on your business site

A blog on your site can help you easily generate new content which is a key part of ranking for a wide range of keyword phrases that are related to your business. Each new blog page you create gives you a new opportunity to rank for multiple keyword phrases. Often these are low volume keyword phrases like “Seattle computer repair specialist who will come to my home” but about 70% of all searches are long tail phrases and about 25% of all searches in Google each month have never been searched for in the history of Google according to Google’s Udi Manber. If you have many pages that just get a little search traffic, over time it can add up to a significant amount of potential customers.

2. Create optimized title tags for your most important pages

Writing and implementing good title tags can help your pages show up for keywords that you are targeting. For example, our homepage title tag is “Seattle Online Marketing | SEO, PPC, Social Media” which gives us the opportunity to rank for several combinations of phrases such as Seattle SEO, Seattle PPC, etc. If your page titles are just the name of your company, you can be missing a good opportunity for increasing search traffic for targeted terms.

3. Write guest posts for Seattle Blogs

Links from sites that are related to your site are thought to be seen as more valuable from Google than links that are unrelated to your site. So if you have a Seattle business, Seattle blogs or blogs in your niche can be a good source of valuable links. Email the blog owner and say that you are interested in writing a guest post for their blog. It is an easy sell because most blogs are constantly seeking new content and you are offering them a free article. Most blogs allow you to add a short bio paragraph at the end of the article with a link to your site. You can request certain anchor text for the links such as “Sparkplug Digital is a Seattle Online Marketing Company that helps small and medium businesses attract more qualified site traffic that turns into customers. Just make sure that you don’t overuse specific anchor text or it will look manipulative to search engines (anchor text is just the text used in the link).

4. Register for Google Places

Google Places
is a local listing service by Google where you can provide Google with location information as well as store hours and photos which will help your business address show up for local searches. You also want to list your business at Bing Local Listing Center, and Yahoo! Local.

5. Brainstorm blog topics with “Seattle” in the title

Your keyword research can reveal what people are entering into Google when looking for a specific offering that you provide. For example, if you are a Seattle computer repair shop, potential customers might use the phrase “Seattle Mac repair” or “Seattle computer consultant”. Brainstorm a list of topics for your blog that use these local phrases in your title. For example: “Seattle Mac Repair: How We Recovered A Family’s Lost Photos” or “Why We Provide Free Seattle Computer Consulting to Retirement Homes”.

6. Create lists related to Seattle

Creating valuable lists of recommended sites can attract quality links to your site. For example you could create a list of the “Top 10 Places in Seattle for Business Networking” or the Top 25 Parks in Seattle, or the Top 10 Seattle Computer Blogs, etc.

7. Register for local Seattle directories

Local directories can be a good source of quality links. One example is The Puget Sound Business Journal local directory. There may also be local organizations that you can join like the Seattle Chamber of Commerce and get a link in the member directory.
