Where Should I Focus My SEO Efforts?

If you are just starting with SEO for your company to increasGood traditione qualified traffic to your website, you may be a little overwhelmed by all the things that you can do. You can create compelling, useful, remarkable, or interesting content. You can register your site for local directories. You can request that people who mention your company add a link to your site. You can write title tags for your most important pages that include your target keywords. You can do keyword research to find out what your potential customers are searching for.

With the many tactics that you can implement, where does one start? In a word – content.

Why you should start with content

Content should be at the foundation of your SEO strategy. You need to have relevant and compelling content in order to attract links. Who would want to link to a site with no useful content? Starting with content will naturally make linkbuilding much easier when you get to that step.

Just get started

Start a blog. That is the first step to getting more traffic from visitors that are potential customers. Technically you should use Google’s Keyword tool to figure out which keywords have the most searches, but often you already have a good sense of what terminology your customers use. Use the same terminology in your blog articles.

Talk about your business.
Why do you do what you do? What are you passionate about? What things are going on in your industry that you think are exciting.

Talk about your location.
What events are coming up in your city or neighborhood? What interesting things are going on in your local community?

You should be generating content (like a blog post) at least 3 times a week if you want to start attracting meaningful traffic. It may take some time. But within 6 months you may have 78 new articles about topics related to your business. Each individual page has the potential to show up in search engine results pages, so you already have improved your chances significantly over your competition who has 0 blog posts for driving traffic and increasing leads.
