SMX Advanced Seattle 2012 Presentations, Decks and Scores (Complete)

Complete SMX Advanced Seattle 2012 Resources

SMX Advanced in Seattle was undoubtedly a memorable conference with amazing speakers and thousands of attendees for 2012. However, not everyone can make the trip out to Seattle to attend the event (let’s be real here – a few good men and women can’t really afford the $1000-$3000 price of admission either) so we scoured the web to gather slides, decks, presentations and also scored the different presenters.

The score is an imperfect mix of presenters’ effectiveness or quality of slides/decks or both. It is scored based on a scale of 1 to 100 (with 100 being amazingly great).

The Periodic Table Of SEO: 2012 Edition
The SEO Periodic Table was first revealed back in 2011, now there is an updated version that contain more panda, penguin and zebra information. There is also a mixture of Google+ magic and all that fun and exciting info about over optimization. If your site is too good or looks too perfect, Google might be out to get you…so please try to strive to be average.

Surviving Personalization with Bing & Google
Google is betting the farm on Google+, everything that we see each and everyday is revolving around being more social. The average geek can’t make it in this world anymore without being at least on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest. That’s more social than personalization you might ask, but isn’t it exactly that? Being more social allow the search engines to make better personalized results for your search. “Like it” our ‘Plus it” and you get better recommended results based on your social group, friends and influence.

Authority Building Versus Link Building in a Search Meets Social World
This session takes a deeper dive into Search and Social, beyond the personalization and into the link building and social signals that Google and Bing are becoming more dependent on. The fact is anchor text are losing its value and if you anchor texts distribution looks perfect it could be misconstrued as over optimization. Social signals, social mentions and social metrics are gain traction and quickly become much more authoritative.

Breaking the Speed Limit: Faster Sites Win!
It’s common knowledge that when a website loads faster it reduces bounce rate. We are a fan of Jonathan Colman from REI in his presentation (many fun references to Twilight) because he outlines with data how much bounce rate decrease with fast loading sites, most important of all the revenue impact that it can have on your website. It’s just a matter of a few seconds but faster site matters and can help improve search ranking and drive more potential revenue.

Schema & Authorship: 1 Year Later
Last year Schema.org took Google, Microsoft and Yahoo’s hands and gave everyone a common ground for sites to provide data and rich snippets. There has been some updates almost 365 days later and the session focus on what they updates will be, how it will impact you and your website.

Pagination & Canonicalization for the Pros
Can you really replace a 301 with a canonical tag? Does it help your website? If you are using the pagination tag and you are adding some additional or optional parameters, sort orders and filters then you need to know what Adam, Jeff and Maile has to say on the topic.
